EMBL Australia

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s (EMBL) Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) is established by EMBL’s governing Council to provide it with advice, particularly regarding proposals from the Director General on the realisation of the programme of scientific activity of the Laboratory.

A/Professor Max Cryle, Senior Research Fellow and EMBL Group Leader at Monash University has been instrumental in helping his final year PhD student (based in Copenhagen) access crystallisation facilities at EMBL- Hamburg.

As EMBL Director, Professor Matthias Hentze advises and works closely with EMBL’s Director General. Matthias oversees the areas of Resource Development and Alumni Relations, and is supported by the Director’s Office.

The past year has seen EMBL Australia expand considerably, with our node at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute becoming firmly established and a new node created at the University of New South Wales. Both these nodes are recruiting group leaders for further expansion, as are the Victorian node at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute at Monash University and a new node at the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Molecular Imaging, also based at Monash University.
