Now in its tenth year, the EMBL Australia PhD Course brings together more than 60 high-achieving PhD students from diverse research fields across Australia, giving them a head start in their scientific careers.
This unique two-week residential course features scientific masterclasses led by Australia’s foremost researchers, hands-on learning opportunities, and professional skill development – ensuring the next generation of researchers is set up for success.
In 2025, we are proud to co-host the course in Adelaide, in collaboration with the South Australian Immunogenomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI). This year’s program is centred on future-ready research skills, including interdisciplinary research, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
Key Learning Objectives:
- Introduce core AI/ML concepts and how they apply across life science technologies
- Build familiarity with the theory and application of major research tools and methods
- Encourage collaboration between wet and dry lab researchers
- Provide hands-on opportunities using real datasets and software
- Develop scientific communication and visualisation skills
- Highlight a range of career pathways across sectors
