The EMBL Australia node for Single Molecule Science, together with the UNSW and the Centre for Advance Molecular Imaging are hosting a one day symposium “Mechanics in Cell Biology” on March 31st in the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, UNSW.

This one day symposium will feature some amazing local and international invited speakers as well as junior researchers, with talks addressing methodological advancements in the field as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms of mechanotransduction.

We would like to encourage students and postdocs to submit an abstract to present their work at the symposium as either a short presentation or a poster. Slots are limited so get your abstracts in quick.

PLEASE VISIT THE SINGLE MOLECULE SCIENCE WEBSITE OR EMAIL US TO REGISTER.

Poster/talk registration closes on March 7th and registration for attendance closes on March 25th (or when we reach capacity).

INVITED GUEST SPEAKERS INCLUDE:

  • Prof David Sampson (Director of the Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation & Analysis, University of Western Australia) “Imaging mechanical properties and exploiting mechanical contrast with optical coherence tomography.”
  • Prof Cheng Zhu (Regents’ Professor and J. Erskine Love Jr. Endowed Chair in Engineering, Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University) “Mechanical Regulation of T cell Biology.”
  • A/Prof Geraldine O’Neill (Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network) “Feel the force: mechanobiology in glioblastoma brain tumours.”
  • Dr Nicholas Plachta (Institute of Molecular & Cell Biology, Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR)) “Imaging how cells decide their fate, shape and position in the living mouse embryo.”
  • Dr Charles Cox (Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute).

We look forward to seeing you there.
