We’re recruiting ambitious early-career researchers!

The EMBL Australia group is growing, with three renowned research institutions – the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and the Australian National University (ANU) – joining our Partner Laboratory Network.

This exciting news means we will be recruiting five talented new group leaders, with three of those roles currently being advertised.

QIMR Berghofer will establish a laboratory focusing on infectious diseases in the area of host pathogen interactions.

ANU are looking for two group leaders – one in bioinformatics and data analysis and another in the genetic and epigenetic regulation of gene expression in cancer – both to be hosted at the John Curtin School of Medical Research in Canberra.

The Garvan Institute will also recruit two group leaders to establish laboratories in audiogenomics and neurogenomics, exploring the genome and its outputs in the auditory system, in the development and functioning of the brain, and in neurological disorders. These roles will be advertised shortly.

The three institutions will join the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Monash University in forming the EMBL Australia Partner Laboratory Network.

EMBL Australia Scientific Head Professor James Whisstock said he was thrilled with the expansion of the network.

“We’re very excited, not only about having these great institutions join our network, but also about the high calibre of people we will attract to lead the new laboratories and to advance Australia’s contribution to genomics, immunology and bioinformatics,” Prof Whisstock said.

“Together, I look forward to continuing to build on our community of like-minded, early-career researchers who are pursuing ambitious scientific programs.”
